Historical Markers in Jones County and Perry County

Jones County, formed from parts of Covington and Wayne counties, was established in 1826 and named for John Paul Jones.  Perry County is named after the War of 1812 naval hero, Oliver Hazard Perry (who is the older brother of Commodore Matthew Perry who forced open Japan).
