Historical Markers in Forrest County
Forrest County was carved out of the western portion of Perry County in 1908 and named in honor of Confederate general Nathan Bedford Forrest. Founded in 1882 by pioneer lumberman and civil engineer William H. Hardy, Hattiesburg was named in honor of Hardy's wife Hattie.
