Historical Markers in Newton County and Jasper County

Sergeants Jasper and Newton were soldiers in the Revolutionary War who were popularized by Parson Weems in his 19th century school books. Several other states besides Mississippi have a Jasper County with a county seat of Newton, or vice versa.
